Brazilian President Jair Bolsonaro has declared three days of mourning over the death of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe. The politician wrote about this on his Twitter.

"It is with deep regret that I received the news of the death of Shinzo Abe, a brilliant leader who was a great friend of Brazil. As a sign of respect for the Japanese people (...) I have declared three days of mourning throughout the country. Let his murder be severely punished," he wrote.

Earlier on Friday, July 8, Abe was admitted in serious condition to a hospital in the city of Nara after Tetsuya Yamagami, a former sailor of the Japan Self-Defense Forces, shot him with a homemade shotgun during an election rally. The politician died in intensive care, where he received all kinds of help, including blood transfusion.

Yamagami told investigators that he was dissatisfied with Abe's policy and wanted to kill him.
